Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive Returns on Saturday, May 13

Monroe, LA – The National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) will conduct its 31st Annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive benefitting the Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana on Saturday, May 13. Stamp Out Hunger is the largest one-day food drive event in the country and provides local residents with a convenient way to donate food to the Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana. This year’s drive will feature the new addition of donation bags being provided to residents that can be filled with food they want to donate to the Food Bank. Letter carriers will start distributing bags to residents in Northeast Louisiana beginning on Saturday, May 6. Members of the community can participate by filling the empty bag with nonperishable food items and placing it near their mailboxes before the delivery of mail on Saturday, May 13, to be collected by a letter carrier. The Food Bank will then distribute the donations to people struggling with hunger in Northeast Louisiana. “The Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive gives us a chance to help those in need of a meal in our community,” said Jimmie Drummer, Letter Carrier with the United States Postal Service. “This is an opportunity for us to give back to the communities that we serve daily.” Residents who do not receive a bag can still donate food by dropping donations off at the Food Bank’s office in Monroe during its regular business hours. “We’re asking people to participate in the drive this year so that our neighbors can continue to have access to the nutritious food they need,” said Jean Toth, Executive Director at the Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana. “We are grateful to the community members who donate food items and to the letter carriers who take the time to collect them.”
