Feeding Ouachita Parish: Patsy

Our neighbors who experience food insecurity often make sacrifices when choosing groceries to save money for their bills and other expenses.

So, when Patsy received pork chops at a recent food pantry distribution, she was more than thrilled.

“I had been craving pork chops and I got them,” Patsy enthusiastically told us.

We met Patsy while visiting our community partner in Richwood, where she receives food assistance each month. She told us that the food she gets from the Food Bank helps her afford other foods she typically would not be able to get.

“It has impacted me drastically,” she said.

Patsy, like thousands of our neighbors in Northeast Louisiana, has been affected by the high cost of food.

“You have to pick and choose what you get from the store,” Patsy explained.

At the distribution, Patsy and other neighbors in the Richwood community received chicken, sausage, and shelf stable food items like canned vegetables and fruit. Please make a gift today to support feeding our neighbors.

Help Fuel Kids School Year

The start of the new school year means the start of the 2024-2025 BackPack for Kids Program.

and reduced-priced meals at school, and when they leave school on Friday, they often won’t have a full meal again until Monday morning.

Thanks to your generous support, over 1,000 kids will go home on Fridays with their backpacks full of kid-friendly food from the Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana.

We know how important this food is for kids in our community because of the feedback we receive from teachers and school administrators

A faculty member of a participating school told us, “Nothing will break your heart more than when a student tells you that they are hungry because they did not have dinner the night before. The Backpack Program gives me peace of mind knowing that students will have some food over the weekends and during breaks.”

When kids are hungry, it’s hard for them to focus and learn. But you can be the reason a child gets the healthy food they need to thrive.
