The National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) will conduct its 33^rd Annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive benefitting the Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana on Saturday, May 10.

Stamp out Hunger is the largest one-day food drive event in the country and provides local residents with a convenient way to donate food to the Food Bank.

Local Letter Carriers will provide residents with donation bags to be filled with food they want to donate to the Food Bank. Letter carriers will begin distributing bags to residents in Northeast Louisiana this week.

Members of the community are asked to fill the bag with non­perishable food items and place it near their mailboxes before the delivery of mail on Saturday, May 10. It will be collected by their letter carrier when they deliver mail. The Food Bank will distribute the donations to local neighbors struggling with hunger in Northeast Louisiana.

“Stamp Out Hunger gives us an opportunity to help those in our community who need a meal,” said Jimmie Drummer, Letter Carrier with the United States Postal Service. “This is how we can give back to the people we serve.”

Residents who do not receive a bag can still donate food by filing their own bag for their carrier or by dropping donations off at the Food Bank’s office in Monroe during its regular business hours.

“This is an easy way to donate food to the Food Bank,” said Jean Toth, Executive Director of the Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana. “We appreciate our letter carriers collecting and transporting thousands of pounds of food to help our local communities. This food will help families, kids and seniors over the upcoming summer months.”
