Area Scouts Set to Gather Food for Local Families on Saturday, November 14
West Monroe, LA – Nearly a thousand local Scouts are set to collect food donations from homes across Northeast Louisiana on Saturday, November 14, for the 39th Annual Boy Scouts of America Scouting for Food drive.
Local Scout troops from the Louisiana Purchase Council will drop off empty donation bags at the doorsteps of homes across the community on Saturday, November 7. Residents are encouraged to fill the bags with non-perishable food items and place them outside their front door by 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 14. Scouts will then collect donations from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
During last year’s drive, area Scouts collected over 14,200 pounds of food. The Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana is inviting community members to donate food items this year to help feed local families experiencing hunger.
“Our food drive inventory is running low, making this an important time for the community to come together and help replenish our shelves,” said Jean Toth, Executive Director of the Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana. “We’re very grateful to the local Scouts for their efforts and hard work, and we encourage everyone to participate in this year’s food drive.”
The most-needed Food Bank items are soups, meals and proteins in a can, as well as plastic jars of peanut butter (no glass containers, please). All non-perishable food items are gladly accepted. If someone would like to help but can’t donate food, they can make a monetary donation online at foodbanknela.org/donate. With every $1 donated, the Food Bank can provide enough food for 3 meals.
